The dawn of CAD/CAM restorations
by: Michael StuartBack in the early 1980s, restorative strength and high esthetics tended to be mutually exclusive. Not wanting to compromise on either, Dr. Matts Andersson changed prosthetic production for good.

Modern CAD/CAM prosthetic production began with the first
Almost twenty years since the first dental implant treatment in 1965, the restorative options for patients still left a lot to be desired. The metal-free restorations at that time were weak and prone to fracture.
Things began to change in 1983, with the introduction of the Procera method for high-precision industrial manufacturing of dental crowns. Developed by Dr. Matts Andersson, this represented a real, scalable change in the way dental prosthetics were produced. Nobelpharma, the company that later became Nobel Biocare, saw the potential and acquired Procera in 1988. The rest, as they say, is history.

A new era for dental prosthetics
The next big leap in function and esthetics came in 1989, with the first ever ceramic CAD/CAM coping (illustrated left). It was made from Procera AllCeram material with a translucent alumina, which was revolutionary at the time.
Offering both high strength and esthetics, this new coping was well-received by labs, clinicians and patients alike. The bar for dental restorations had been raised.
Today, the NobelProcera System continues to lead the field as it delivers outstanding quality, ready-to-use restorations. Since the fabrication of that first
Every NobelProcera product and solution since then has been designed to give patients both functional and natural-looking tooth restorations, individually designed to last. What's more, all permanent restorations are backed by a five-year warranty.
The know-how to make it work
